Abstract

Nowadays utilizing renewable energies is considered as a solution to the energy crisis. Wind energy is one of the most available forms of renewable energies which originated from Iranian windmills in Sistan and Baluchestan where it is one of the windiest provinces in Iran. Unfortunately, there are no wind potential or economic studies for this important province. Encompassing in renewable energies by SUNA in Iran, new attentions were undertaken towards different regions in Iran such as Khorasan, Semnan, and other provinces and new wind power plants were installed especially in Binaloud in Khorasn. In this paper, wind potential at three stations in the Sistan and Blouchestan Province has been assessed and good quality for installing wind turbines was recognized. Then, six different wind turbines, rated between 1 and 100 kW, has been analyzed locally and economically. Based on this analysis, the best wind turbine to maintain the electricity for the cities of Chabahar, Delgan, and Dehak has been nominated as 10 kW to be installed in the height of 40 meters. The payback period for installing a 4 MW wind turbine power plant is estimated around 17, 29, and 38 months, respectively.
