Heller cooling towers have a wide range of applications, especially in the regions with water shortage. One possible method to improve the efficiency of these towers, at high ambient temperatures, can be the use of - fans in the towers to increase heat transfer rate. As a case study, the operational data have been used for Shahid Montazeri Power Plant (Isfahan, Iran). Tower simulations with and without suction fans were developed through using CFD commercial code, Fluent. Cooling towers were simulated at different ambient temperatures, and the effects of fan power were studied numerically. A gPROMS code was developed as well to find out the effects of the installation of fans on the performance and parameters of the power plant. The results indicated that, at ambient temperature of 315 K, there was an increase of 7 MW per turbine or a total power increase of 56 MW in power production. An economic analysis of the plant, based on simple payback time method, predicts a total investment of 660,000 MRls and a payback time of 1.2 year up to 13.5 years, depending on the purchased price of the electricity. Based on the purchased price of 8000 Rls/kWh for the year 2017, a payback time of 1.4 years is calculated.
