In this paper, a new control strategy is presented to manage energy consumption in Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) based on Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (FCM). In this strategy, FCM, as a supervisory control, is used to keep the State of Charge (SoC) of the battery in an acceptable range and to reduce fuel consumption per kilometer while providing the request power. Since this method does not need to have an accurate model of the system, it has lower computational complexities in determining the control law; furthermore, its implementation is easier than the classical methods. In this paper, the PHEV is series-parallel. For analyzing the performance of the proposed control strategy, three actual and standard driving cycles and a typical urban driving cycle, based on the actual traffic condition in Tehran, have been used. Simulation results show that the proposed control strategy provides the request power, reduces the fuel consumption, and keeps the SoC at a high level, in comparison with the conventional Fuzzy Controllers.
