Biodiesel Production from Tomato Seeds with In-situ Transesterification Process. JEM. 2018; 8 (2) :38-49

In-situ is one of the biodiesel production methods in which seeds are used directly in the reaction without oil extraction. The objective of this research is to optimize the biodiesel production conditions for theIn-situ reaction using tomato seeds as a feed. The effects of reaction parameters such as molar ratio of oil to alcohol and catalyst to oil weight percent ratio on the reaction yield have been investigated. The experiments were conducted in two groups, trans-esterification process and esterification process followed by trans-esterification. Maximum yield was obtained about 62% in trans-esterification process and test conditions of 1/700 oil to alcohol molar ratio and catalyst to oil weight percent ratio of 14%. The maximum conversion was obtained about 99% in the esterification process with conditions of 1/300 oil to alcohol molar ratio and 2% catalyst to oil weight percent ratio.
